As exciting and magical as the birth of one's baby is, it can also be a stressful time. One way to help relieve some of the stress is to be as prepared as possible so that does one is not rushing around after one's baby is born. There are several items to have on hand, and if one prepares early, unwanted stress can be easily avoided.
If planning on giving birth at a hospital, it is important to pack one's hospital bag well before one's due date so that if one's baby comes early one is well prepared. In the bag, there are several necessary items to include. One does not want to over-pack, but a few necessities are a must. For personal hygiene so that one feels good, include shampoo, hairbrush, deodorant, hair tie, a nice smelling lotion, and lip balm. Due to the bleeding after birth, pack pads as well. Also include nursing pads, a little outfit for the baby and a hospital gown for yourself if the hospital one does not appeal to you. Dear Johnnie's makes functional, fashionable, and comfy gowns that make your stay more pleasant. These items are a great start for one's hospital bag, but always ask fellow parents to see what they found important.
Car Seat Stroller Combo
Once one is home after one's stay, there are several items to have ready for one's baby. One important issue is that of transportation. A car seat is very important, as is a sunscreen for the car window. A great stroller and baby sling will provide you with the mobility needed to go on walks or to show one's baby off to friends and family.
For any outing, a diaper bag is a must. Definitely include a change of baby clothes for any unexpected accidents. For changing, one or two extra diapers and wet wipes are a must, as well as a bag to dispose of dirty diapers. A small changing pad is also helpful. An extra binky (if one uses these), nursing pads, baby wash cloth, and blanket are important. In case of any little mishaps, a travel size of Kleenex, baby Tylenol, and thermometer are helpful. If the weather is warm, be sure to include a hat and sunscreen. For oneself, including a bottle of water and granola bar will ensure that you have something to eat if one's outing takes longer than expected.
When one returns home from giving birth, one does not want to have to be running around getting last minute changing supplies. Have on hand a decent amount of diapers (not too many as babies grow quickly), wipes, small changing pads for throughout the house, and a changing table. Having these items easily accessible will make changing easier. I also like to have a small garbage can by the changing table that is used only for dirty diapers so that it stays separate from the kitchen garbage. Finally, have some diaper rash ointment so that one's baby is not uncomfortable.
Bath supplies are important and are something first time parents sometimes forget to prepare for. An infant bath tub is a must. Have several soft wash cloths as well as two or three soft hooded towels for drying. Baby soap and shampoo, as well as baby oil for after a bath are necessities. Also include a soft baby brush for combing hair after the bath.
Feeding supplies are important, as one's baby will primarily be eating and sleeping for quite some time. Even if one is breastfeeding, having a few bottles on hand is a nice backup. Burp cloths are very important as well, as well as a breast pump.
For sleeping, a crib, sheets, and several receiving blankets to wrap ones baby in are the basic essentials. Hanging a mobile above the crib often helps one's baby to sleep. Although these are only a few items, they are the basic needed necessities.
Having clothing when one's baby gets home is important, although one does not want to buy too much in the newborn size as they are sure to quickly outgrow it. Have a multitude of one piece suits, as well as several pajamas as they are sure to get dirty. Several outfits are good, and can be something fun to pick out. Also, include plenty of socks as they are sure to get lost in the wash!
Overall, having supplies in stock before one's baby is born will help relieve any stress one might feel and will make those first few weeks much easier. Talk to friends and family to see what items they found indispensable. Congratulations on the newest addition to your family!
